The history behind our modern day writing tools

The history behind this ingenious creation goes as:

During 4000 BC, we,  humans made sculptures and pictorials with the help of a bronze or bone tool. The tools that facilitated drawings and other ancient textual scripts were rough and gave a very poor impression.

Around 3000 BC, a new writing instrument was discovered by the Egyptians. The new tool that was used to write were thin reed brushes and reed pens and were used to write on papyrus scrolls.

Around 1300 BC, the Romans leaded the way by introducing metal stylus to write. These stylus' looked similar to our new age scalpel or lancet used by doctors. They were sharp and gave fine impressions upon use on thin sheets made up of wax.

During 600-1800AD, the Europeans used quill pens to write on parchments. It initially appeared in Spain, which later on moved to the other parts of Europe. The style of quill pens can be easily seen in movies. The quill pens enjoyed as the most obvious choice for writers because of their fine style; basically, it altered their style of writing.

In the 15^th century, pencil lead was invented when a huge graphite mine was discovered. The carved hand made wood holder was later on added for proper grip. And these pencils were then called lead pencils.

From the year 1800-1950s, substantial discoveries were made to improve the writing instruments and several companies joined the bandwagon in determining the best suitable tools for modern day writing. This included fountain pens, ball point pens, highlighters and ink pens.

From the year 1970-1990s, the world was introduced to roller ball pens. These ball pens which gave finer impressions upon use, employed a rolling ball and thinner ink.  During the same time, with the advent of  technology, we were also introduced to fine made metal pens with rubber grips to enhance the flow of writing and to have a smoother grip.
